INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL Therapy

INitial Evaluation

The initial evaluation is a time where the clinician can get to know your child’s strengths and areas for growth. An initial evaluation is completed using both informal and formal, evidence-based assessments. Additional information is gathered via caregiver report, records review, and skilled observation. Evaluations typically take 45-60 minutes.

An evaluation must be completed in order to initiate direct occupational therapy services. Included in the cost of the evaluation is a detailed written evaluation report as well as a review meeting where we discuss the results of the evaluation, determine services moving forward, and collaboratively set goals.

*If an occupational therapy evaluation has been completed within the last 6 months; no evaluation is needed to initiate services.

DIrect Occupational Therapy sessions

Occupational therapy sessions focus on what is important to you and your child. Sessions are designed to address each child’s individual needs.

Sessions use these guiding principles:
- Consistent collaboration with family members (school staff and medical professionals where appropriate)
- Neurodivergent affirming, evidence-based and holistic approaches
- Family centered with the understanding that caregivers are the experts on their child
- Child-led play that value a child’s input
- Focus on strengths of the child and incorporation of their interests
- Foster growth and development by providing a just right challenge

We also believe that caregivers play an active role in their child’s development. During sessions, the clinician will coach the caregivers in ways that will support their child’s development. Research has shown that coaching improves carryover of skills and empowers caregivers to use demonstrated techniques when the clinician is not present thus improving outcomes. Sessions are typically 45 minutes in length.

School contracting services

BLOOM offers school based contracting services to provide schools/school districts with school based occupational therapy services. School based occupational therapists support a child’s overall ability to participate in educationally relevant activities within the school based setting. School based occupational therapists typically focus on these educationally relevant areas:

  • Fine motor functioning

  • Sensory processing

  • Visual processing skills

  • Self care skills

  • Executive functioning

  • Social skills

  • Cognitive skills

Educational Advocacy

Need help navigating the education system? BLOOM offers support in understanding the documentation, terminology, what services are offered, and what those services mean for your child. We work collaboratively with families and strive to empower families with the knowledge they need to be advocates for their children.

Occupational therapy consulting

Perhaps you’re not quite ready for direct therapy services yet. Consultation sessions can be utilized as a stand-alone service. Consultation sessions are a time where we can discuss areas of concern and problem solve any challenges you are facing. Consultation sessions are held via video conference or telephone and are 30 minutes.
